About

This website was born in 1996 as a gift to this website’s primary author from Dr. Jeannette McDonald, DVM, PhD, Distance Education Specialist. It was extensively expanded in 2000 with financial help from the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board (now called the Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin) and the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, Division of Animal Health. The design and functionality of the 2000 version of the website was created by Distillery Design. In 2010 the website’s content was updated again by Dr. Elizabeth J.B. Manning, DVM, MPH, one of the site’s coauthors.

This new and improved 2019 version, 4.0, of our site was created with the excellent help of the Teaching & Research Application Development (TRAD) team, University of Wisconsin, Department of Information Technology (DoIT) which also hosts this website. None of this would have been possible without our sponsors and we give special thanks to our current platinum sponsor Zoetis.

We encourage you to look around, even if you’ve been to this site many times before. You will find a lot of new content and many more images. All of this is provided to educate animal owners and veterinarians. If you know of others who would benefit from learning about Johne’s disease please pass along a link to our site to others who should know about this chronic, contagious, prevalent, insidious, and probably zoonotic infectious disease.
